Not a celebrity for an Australian summer Christmas, but
F is for Frosty the Snowman...
and Frosty is certainly a popular character in that popular December song, Frosty the Snowman where there is likely to be a 'white' Christmas. In this cheery song, Frosty is magically brought to life when children dress him in a hat... and so, Frosty enjoys dancing and prancing around, until he meets with a problem with the police, and leaves only to promise a return.
Frosty the Snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
There must have been magic in that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head,
He began to dance around ...
He led them down the streets of town, right to the traffic cop
And only paused a moment when he heard him holler 'Stop'
For Frosty the Snowman, had to hurry on his way;
But he waved them goodbye, sayin' "Don't cry, I'll be back again some day."
( extract of song lyrics)
I first met Frosty the Snowman when I was quite young as I learnt to read from Little Golden Books - quite a fanciful story as I grew up in North Queensland, and my chance of ever meeting a snowman at Christmas time was - 'never". . In a later animated version of Frosty's story, the plot describes the adventures of Frosty and his friends as they attempt to escape from the original owner of the magical hat and the quest to get Frosty to the North Pole so that he will not melt away. However, my favourite version is this 2 minute video of Jimmy Durante's rendition of the song - enjoy some of the magic of Christmas!
