Who Will Wear An Apron?

.Each year , a rtists from across Australia and overseas will once again unite to create works of art on aprons for The Apron Project. In the last three years over 100 artists have presented more than 200 aprons and raised much needed funds for the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter.    Importantly they also raised awareness of the growing epidemic of Domestic Violence.  The Apron Project was created by Australian Sallianne McClelland who is the current chair of t he  Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter   which services women in crisis in the community and is currently also working with the State and Federal governments to better the living opportunities once women leave the shelter and attempt to restart their life.  T he Apron Project has never been more needed than it is today.   2015: 66 dead | 2016: 71 dead | 2017: 53 dead and to date 2018: 61 dead.   In the same period artists from across the USA and Australia have contributed ov...

Flying Free on International Women's Day

You're invited to: 'Flying Free' Newcastle’s Timeless Textiles Gallery will continue a five-year tradition of holding community-based art events to celebrate International Women’s Day, with the culmination of its Flying Free project featuring a huge flock of hand-made fabric birds that will ‘fly free’ outside the gallery in March this year. Timeless Textiles has collaborated with local artist, Wilma Simmons, to create the IWD art events, with local artists offering free community fibre art workshops, using techniques such as embellishing, screen printing, painting, stitching and dyeing. As well as the chance to learn new skills, the workshops allow people to brush up on their techniques and, of course, to enjoy themselves. White Ribbon

a small section of the 150 metre embroidered white ribbon  On International Women's Day, 8 March 2014, an amazing community event occurred.... It was a 14 hour stitch-a-thon starting at 6am and finishing at 8pm ( 14 hours for 2014). Not only did we celebrate the achievements of women doing an activity generally classified as domestic art, we also raised awareness for the national and international campaign against domestic violence.
