Empress Wu Designs with Wilma

This weekend I participated in the inaugural Art Dolls Only online show and sale "A Dark Christmas".  The dolls I submitted show a diversity of doll making techniques.  Party Girl  - Empress Wu Designs  Party Girl ...  This is Lulu's story - she is in a dilemma . The office Christmas party this year has a theme " A Dark Christmas" - what should she wear? She loves pants suits to show off her long legs, but how can she make a pants suit more glamourous and fit the theme?  Perhaps a version of the little black dress?  Maybe  a few sparkles? And with new hair dye - yes! She is happy with this - looking festive and sophisticated!  Party Girl Party Girl is a cloth art doll , with jointed arms and legs and hand beaded accessories. Porcelain and cloth dolls, fluffy and furry teddy bears, fantasy fairies and elves - the fanciful and realistic were all at the Newcastle Charity Doll Show on Saturday. While the competition attracted the visitors ' interest mostly, there were stalls with all sorts of supplies - tools, wigs, fabric, lace, beads, silk prints, clay - all to delight and entice doll makers. I helped my friends, Bobbi and Jane, ( LamboArt ) with their stall. I even took a few of my things along to add to the colour and style of the stall. It was a very different stall from most of the others, which were predominantly related to porcelain dolls making. We had Jane's fantastic cards and paper arts and Bobbi's wonderful sculptured art dolls, and her latest line in wine gift bags . I brought along a couple of my beaded pieces, as well as some vintage lace and buttons to add to the clay and tools supplies from Bobbi and Jane. These are FELTFOLLIES - embellished felt shapes which magically develop personalities of their own. I made these three during the week, showed them in Sydney at Hello Dollies on Saturday, and today they are in my ETSY shop. Clockwise from left to right are Feltfollie High Five - a cheerful but thoughtful character who gives you a high 5 rather demurely; Feltfollie Fashionista who is a fashion statement with silver handbag, and high heeled shoes and a fascinator with Swarovski crystals; and Feltfollie Faith - a quiet meditative type. They are a bit "way out there" but such fun to make. Each has a brooch pin attached to the back, to make them into wearable brooches, handbag accessories or just special treasures to uplift one's spirits. The felt shapes have been made with my felt embellishing machine (Janome Expression) and include wool, novelty yarns, mohair, silk rods, silk ribbon and even a piece of heated tyvek.
